There is programming for everyone -- across career sectors, levels, affinities, industries as well as by UMD schools and colleges. We even have something for our members.

  • The pandemic ushered in a wave of change to the employment landscape that ultimately impacted all sectors.  Many workers are recognizing the unique opportunity to make a change, both professionally and academically.  The policy world occupies an important space for those workers looking for meaning and impact in their careers.  Come learn more about how it may be time for you to consider a career pivot that provides altruistic benefits and more satisfaction in your day-to-day professional life.

Equity and Inclusion as Leadership Values 

  • Rodney Oddoye '02, SVP of Governmental, External and Regulatory Affairs, Pepco Holdings
  • Now, more than any time in recent history, employees are asking executive leaders to prioritize equity and inclusion in the workplace.  While many businesses embrace DEI as a core value, it is often demonstrated only through the lens of diversity.  In this session, Rodney Oddoye, SVP of Governmental, External and Regulatory Affairs for Pepco Holdings will share his perspective on the distinct attributes of equity and inclusion and the need for emerging leaders to demonstrate those values in a manner that will influence and inspire those they lead.

  • Arts organizations are on the cutting edge of technology and social justice issues and the lessons from these organizations can inform all workplaces. Arts for All is a new Presidential initiative connecting the arts with the sciences, technology and other disciplines. This Arts For All sponsored session will address how technology and social justice are changing organizations and industries featuring alumni in the Arts. Moderated by Patrick Warfield, Associate Dean, College of Arts and Humanities.

  • Susan Chong Powell, adjunct professor, Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park
  • Join the Howard County Alumni Network and Susan Chong Powell. adjunct professor at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park, on an informational resume writing workshop. In this presentation, she will go over the key elements to a successful 2022 resume and cover letter, as well as go over other trends in resume writing and interviewing.

Following our keynote, you’ll have the opportunity to join breakout rooms for networking facilitated by other alumni focusing on Educational Leadership, Career Educators, Nontraditional Pathways to Careers in Education, and Careers in Education Technology.
