The NYU Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts offers two pathways to careers in publishing and media, the MS in Publishing and the NYU Summer Publishing Institute (SPI). Students are invited to attend the information session, and consider beginning their publishing studies during the 2023 Summer Publishing Institute. If they are accepted and successfully complete SPI, they can enter the graduate program in the Fall with three graduate credits or they can apply now for Spring 2023 or Fall 2023 to the MS in Publishing.
(Full details and the application process will be discussed during info. session.)
MS in Publishing — Our 36-credit degree program provides students with a practical foundation in book publishing and digital/magazine media. Students may apply for the Spring 2023 or Fall 2023 semesters. Through a combination of classroom learning taught by esteemed industry professionals, and hands-on computer laboratory study of key digital formats and social media, the MS in Publishing helps students to master the skills required for success in today’s publishing workplace. Classes are held in the evening to accommodate students working in the industry or gaining internship experience. Global opportunities to volunteer at conferences and book fairs in London, Frankfurt, and Bologna (when global travel is advisable); virtual and in-person industry visits; and networking events, ensure students have access to every aspect of publishing.
Summer Publishing Institute (SPI) — Our renowned summer program this year will be held for four weeks (June 5 to June 30, 2023) as an in-person program. SPI was developed specifically for recent college graduates and rising college seniors who are interested in careers in the book publishing and digital/magazine media industries. SPI attracts more than 150 leading industry executives who serve as faculty members and guest speakers. Students attend lectures and workshops that explore key publishing issues; visit some of the top book, magazine, and digital publishing headquarters; and participate in a career fair and other job-related activities. SPI 2023 will award three graduate credits to those who successfully complete the program. These credits may be applied to our MS in Publishing or to an advanced degree at another institution of higher education where the credits are deemed acceptable. Students may choose to apply to and attend both programs and enter the Master's program in the Fall with three graduate credits in 2023. Scholarships are available for SPI 2023.
Once you RSVP for an information session, you will receive a confirmation email and a link to participate via Zoom.
