For students searching for an internship/job or just trying to learn more about career options out there, networking is a key way to discover opportunities and build relationships. Thanks to programs/events held by the University Career Center and other departments on campus, software platforms available exclusively to UMD students, social media, and already established personal connections, there are countless ways students can start connecting with professionals in their intended career field(s) of interest.
In this session, we will discuss:
- How to map out and expand your current professional network.
- Ways to engage with individuals working in the career field(s) you want to pursue by utilizing online platforms and social media, such as Terrapins Connect, LinkedIn, and more.
- What an informational interview actually is and examples of how to reach out and ask for insight into a certain career field.
- Strategies to continue to stay in contact with the professionals you meet along the way.
