Career Shuttle: National Weather Service

Join us on a Career Shuttle to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center in College Park. 

The National Weather Prediction Center's College Park location houses a variety of different NOAA teams. On this visit to the center, students can expect to learn about local and national weather prediction units, including the National Center for Weather and Climate Prediction, and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (which includes the Ocean Prediction Center). They will also hear about the Storm Prediction Center, Space Weather Prediction Center, Aviation Weather Center, and the National Hurricane Center. 

Students with an interest in climate, oceanic science, atmospheric science, and other related areas are encouraged to attend to learn more about the variety of government departments that make up the world of weather prediction within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 

During our visit, we will learn about internship and career opportunities with NOAA and get a better sense of what careers look like with the agency.

Students of all majors (undergraduate & graduate) are welcome to attend. Space is limited. Once the bus is full, you will be added to our waiting list and notified if a spot opens up. Please note, due to the limited space and the expected high demand for this trip, we will be enforcing our "no show" policy. If you find you cannot attend this event, please contact Rebecca Ryan, cmnscareers@umd.edu, as soon as possible. If you fail to attend this event, we will charge your student account $25 to recover some of our lost costs.

Important Logistics: On Tuesday, April 11, we will meet promptly in the University Career Center (3100 Hornbake Library, South Wing 3rd Floor) at 3 p.m. All participants will sign a waiver form. If you are under the age of 18, please notify us ahead of time. We will travel by vans to the National Weather Prediction Center in College Park, MD. Our session will last from approximately 3:30 - 5:30 p.m., and depending on traffic, we will return to campus by 6 p.m.
