Location: Virtual/Asynchronous & In-Person Options Available
The University Career Center's popular Intern for a Day program connects undergraduate UMD students with professionals (including alumni, parents/family members, and other off-campus partners) for in-person job shadowing or virtual informational interviewing experiences to explore potential career fields of interest. After participating in a mandatory orientation and completing an application, University Career Center staff match you with an professional of interest for a half- or full-day job shadowing experience or a virtual informational interview.
All students interested in participating in Intern for a Day must attend an orientation session in order to receive access to the application. Students can choose to attend one of two options to meet the mandatory orientation requirement:
- Option A: Attend one in-person orientation OR
- Option B: Complete the virtual, asynchronous orientation available on February 10, 2025

Completion of this 30-45 minute, asynchronous online orientation is required in order for UMD undergraduate students to receive access to the Intern for a Day student application each semester.
Students have until Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 11:59pm to complete this orientation. Visit this page to enroll for more details.
What to Expect
The purpose of this mandatory orientation is to give University of Maryland undergraduate students insight into how the Intern for a Day process works and how to best prepare for a job shadowing and virtual informational interviewing opportunity if we are able to match you with a professional through the program. It should take you approximately 30-45 minutes to complete the orientation.
You can find the dates and deadlines associated with completing this orientation for the current semester at go.umd.edu/ifad. After viewing all content and completing all "assignments" (3 quizzes, 1 activity) with full scores within this orientaiton, you will receive the Intern for a Day application in the days after the orientation closes.

- Background on Intern for a Day
- Application/matching process, followed by a brief quiz for understanding
- How to prepare for a job shadowing experience, followed by an activity and a brief quiz for understanding
- How to prepare for a virtual informational interviewing experience, followed by a brief quiz
