What career resources are available to alumni?

Create (or claim) your free UMD Handshake account, which provides access to online resources like Vault, FOCUS2, PathwayU, Big Interview, GoinGlobal, and more. 

Visit the University Career Center's website for a wealth of information on resumes, interviewing tips, job search advice, and applying to graduate or professional schools. We also encourage you to visit the Alumni Association's Professional Development page for alumni career resources.

Where can I find information about job opportunities?

  • You can access Handshake, the University of Maryland’s career management platform to search for opportunities specific to alumni in your particular field or area of interest. 

Can I meet with someone to discuss career options?

If you graduated from UMD over a year ago and have not continued your education at another professional or graduate school post-graduation, you may request one 30-minute appointment for career guidance. Appointment times are limited. Please make requests through your Handshake account.

PLEASE NOTE: If you graduated from the following UMD schools, contact them directly for specific resources, including career advice/appointments:

Visit the Alumni Association's Professional Development page for alumni career resources and coaches.

If you are within your first year of graduation, you may request an appointment with a University Career Center staff member according to your school. Complete your Handshake profile and make your request.

Can I attend career events?

Yes, unless otherwise noted, alumni are welcome to attend our career events. Please review Handshake and our events calendar for a listing of upcoming programs.

Where can I find information about UMD graduates (salary, geographical preferences)?

Our annual Graduation Survey is a great source of information about recent graduates and includes information by school on where students are working, average salaries and location preferences.
