Ways to Engage UMD Students:

Career Fairs

Purpose: Brand Building and Recruiting.

Description: Connect with students at campus-wide or niche career fairs each semester.

Industry Meetups

Purpose: Brand Building and Recruiting.

Description: Industry-specific recruiting roundtables for students and employers in hiring mode to connect.

Information Sessions

Purpose: Engagement and Recruiting.

Description: Provide students with an opportunity to learn about your organization and roles. 

Current Options: Post your event in Handshake. Email ucc-recruiting@umd.edu with questions.

Resume and Mock Interview Clinics

Purpose: Engagement and Education

Description: Provide feedback on student resumes or interview skills

Current Options: Volunteer Page

Office Hours

Purpose: Engagement and Education

Description: Schedule 1-on-1, small group appointments or open drop-ins to review resumes, conduct mock interviews, or answer questions.

Tech Talk or Product Demo

Purpose: Education and Recruiting 

Description: Host a tech talk or product demo to provide insights into emerging tech or your organization’s products 

Current Options: Can be scheduled at the employer’s discretion. Email ucc-recruiting@umd.edu.

Pre-Night Interview Session

Purpose: Education and Recruiting.

Description: Prepare students for interviews by meeting with your representatives and providing more information about your organization.

Simulation or Hack-a-Thon

Purpose: Education and Engagement.

Description: Engage students in interactive activities.

Current Options: Can be scheduled at the employer’s discretion, email ucc-recruiting@umd.edu.

Tabling (in the Student Union food court or outside of University Career Center)

Purpose: Brand Building and Engagement.

Description: Interact informally with students in high-traffic areas.

Current Options: Can be scheduled at the employer’s discretion, email ucc-recruiting@umd.edu.

Factors to consider for hosting or participating in events

Your Goals: Define your event objectives, such as brand awareness, talent sourcing, or expertise sharing.

Timing: Align your event with the UMD academic calendar.

Desired target audience: Identify the groups of students you hope to engage, including their class levels, academic majors, and identities.

Format: Choose a format that best meets your goals, considering creative engagement methods.


Food Options

On-campus Catering

Dining Services offers a wide range of options for lunch orders or event catering. Ensure delivery orders are placed by 9:30 a.m. the day before your interview or event.

Off-Campus Catering

The Center is within walking distance of various food options. You can also have food delivered to:

Food Court

See a list of Stamp Student Union food court vendors. Note that the food court is busiest between noon and 1:30 p.m., so plan interview times accordingly.
